Thunder Mountain

Thunder Mountain, perhaps 50km SW of Chain Lakes, is renowned for thunderstorms and high winds. We were lucky this Saturday in early June, with mostly sunny skies and generally light breezes. This hike was new for us, a first in this area. The trail is ambiguous at times, but mostly follows the mountain's north ridge from by the Oldman River. It took us 3 hours for the ascent, our pace being slowed by the frequent picture taking of the fabulous views. We stayed on top for 45 min., but could easily have spent another hour there, enjoying the wonderful weather and the incredible scenery. A somewhat tiring but definitely exhilarating 6 hour day, which we later ended with pizza and ice cream in Black Diamond.
